Just got sent the press packet on the new Eric Vigoroux Racing Dakar trucks. Yummy.

Nice truck.
Is it based on the new S-10?

Is this the entire "press packet" or is there some more technical info with it?
You've seen this?

You guessed it. It's meant to somewhat look like the Chevy Colorado Z71. Eric has long standing ties with Chevy

The press packet's pretty involved. 22 pages, tech specs, photos of the truck naked (for both the front and the back), driver bios, support vehicle info, info on the Dakar. It's good stuff.
I did see that. That's the best look we've had at the front of RG's new truck so far.

It looks very nice.
It would be kick-ass to attend the Dakar, I'm not that far from the Argentinian stages, I'm pretty close actually (for a major event, that is) but it still would cost me a pretty penny to follow it without suffering that much, as it gets incredibly hot during the day, even more so at the stages, on open field. Maybe in the near future.

I wish I were close enough to go, there are some great new cars competing this year, and we could see Dakar history with a 2WD, non-factory team win overall

You think? I would love that to happen, it would make things more interesting (for the competition's future).
What team do you think would be a good contender based on the parameters you mentioned?
Also, I always root for an overall win by the trucks (T4), I know it's unrealistic nowadays... buuuut it would be awesome for a big truck to challenge the T2s and T3s.

Best chance at the 2WD win is Sainz in the SMG buggy. Former Dakar winner in a car that was proven fast last year. Second I'd say is Robby. He got the old Hummer on the podium and scored six stage wins the last two years. The new HST is faster, more agile, and hopefully more reliable. So long as he doesn't get in any arguments with a sand dune and the car holds up he could absolutely destroy the Minis.
BJ Baldwin and Guerlain Chicherit in the EVR trucks (the ones pictured above) are the third possible 2WD entry. They were built by Damen Jefferies, the man who built Nasser's buggies last year. Nasser's cars both failed to finish, of course, but they also won four of the first six stages, so we know Damen's builds are bonkers fast. If he's got the reliability sorted they're a threat for sure.
I've got a Dakar preview piece written up and set to post on Friday that goes into the details of the event. It profiles a few of the major players in this year's race.

Excellent! I'm looking forward to reading it.
